I had the wildest dream last night and, from which, I feel inspired to write a short story to make sense of it. Its really a snippet, but its a start from what I can remember. So, enjoy this week's blog special!
I layed my head on my pillow, surrounded by brown and white quilts, and I sank into the mattress beneath me. I closed my eyes and when I opened them again, when I felt like it was morning, everything was bright. It wasn't the sun and it wasn't heaven. It was bright like the a 70s science fiction movie. Full of lush green grass and purple hills. A fair amount of mist clung to the air. I wished I knew where I was, it was all so unfamiliar. Just after that thought passed my head, a ball of light pulled through the mist. It was a tiny glow ball, golden in luminescence. When it approached, it made no sound and when I tried to speak it vanished as quickly as it had come.
Before long, I met the grand wizard. He was tall and lanky, with a face that seemed neither kind nor malicious. He was a mix of Merlins, more like the Disney cartoon version. In a low voice, he asked why I was here. I tilted my head and looked up at him, stalling for an answer. He titled his and said
"ah ha!"
to which I jumped and then froze in place.
"Niece" he spoke, "you have come along way from your princessly duties to visit."
A princess? That's who he thought I was? Okay, I can go along with that.
"Go play out back," he said. "The animals miss you. I will be along shortly."
Wondering around for the afternoon, I found myself sitting on a brick wall. Before long, I found myself seated next to a friend. I couldn't make out who it was suppose to be because their facial features were blurred, but they were of the male gender. We talked about books for a while, and our families, and many things. Then the strangest thing happened- their arms began to turn bright yellow! We both starred at them and started to laugh. Then the yellow spread to his head! How absolutely bizzare. We laughed some more- but then he couldn't laugh. He starred at me with paniced eyes, gasped three times, and then...died. Simply ceased moving and, ever so faintly, exploded- like the witches do at the end of Hocus Pocus except yellow.
Having lost a friend, I became morose in this Wizard's land. I spent the later part of the day podering, until I ended up at a tea table. The wizard was there with a bunch of empty seats and gestured that I join him. He said something, but I didn't hear him. I was in a daze. He repeated himself, a little more gruffly this time. All I could do was turn my head with a "hm?" at the end. He frowned at me.
"I asked how the petunias were, Jasmine." He laced the name with contempt. I was discovered it seemed. This cover, Disney princess, I had been pretending to be was blown. He stood and gave me a stern look before retreating to his castle on the purple hill. When he left, I had the feeling of wishing I knew where I was. The glow ball appeared in my vision, dancing before my eyes. Next to it, another friend appeared- who oddly looked like a popular Chemist- in a plaid suit. He made some jokes with me and the laughing made me feel better. Even the little bulb tinkled along. I asked the chemist what time it was and when we looked at his wrist, we noticed that his hands had started to become blue. He asked what was happening, and this time I knew. I told him
"you're going to die," he shook his head and me as if I were mad. "But it's ok, because that means you get to leave." Still he grimaced in protest. "See," I said, "your head will turn blue," and it did. "Next you won't be able to breath and you'll disappear." He gasped and when he shattered, even the glow ball left my side.
When I awoke in my bed, I had no idea where I had gone or how I had gotten back. Isn't that just the thing of dreams?
Three things to my short story:
1) The wizard, the people turning into colors/gasping/exploding was really what I saw. Just the two people, as I wrote. I have no idea what to think about that.
2) I don't watch Breaking Bad, so I have no idea how the main dude ended up as my tea-time friend.
3) Never drink hot-cocoa and Kahlua an hour before bed.
Sleep well everyone!
PS, I love magician movies- so I have this nugget for you! :D
